Mika came to Sweet Briar in 2025 as a visiting assistant professor of dance, bringing myriad experience and expertise to the College. She has received three degrees in dance, including a bachelor’s from Sarah Lawrence College, master’s from York University, and Ph.D. in culture and performance from the University of California. Mika recently served as a postdoctoral fellow for York’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance, and Design in addition to working as a faculty member at the university. Before York, she was a lecturer and resident academic on the tenure-track in dance studies at the University of Malta’s School of Performing Arts and world arts and cultures/dance course instructor at the University of Los Angeles.
As a dancer, choreographer, and director, Mika has collaborated on numerous projects throughout her career, receiving awards and recognition for her work, ranging from the Fulbright-Hays’ Doctoral Dissertation Research Award to the Dance Studies Association’s Selma Jeanne Cohen Award, among others. She regularly leads professional workshops and serves as a guest lecturer at events around the world.
